Born on July 1, 1945, in Redding, California, to Richard and Dulce Berland. Patricia moved around with her patents as a young girl before settling in the Portland, Oregon area. Patricia was close to her family her entire life. Patricia was married (later divorced) and had two sons. Her sons, James and Robert, were everything to her. She raised the two boys by herself all the time, being a working mother. Patricia started working as a secretary for Union Pacific Railroad in Portland, Oregon, in 1969. In the 1980’s she was transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah. A few years later, she met her husband, Patrick Whalen. They were married in April 1994. They were together the rest of her life. Patricia dedicated 36 years of her life working as an administrative clerk at Union Pacific Railroad, where she eventually retired from the training department in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2005.
Patricia's kindness and love extended deeply to her family and all living creatures. She is survived by her husband, Patrick Whalen; her son, James Lowry (Jessica); stepson, John Whalen (Aranda); and her grandchildren, Morgan (Michael), James (Haley), Aimee, Richard (Rashelle), Julie, Aaron, Patrick, Daniel and Logan. Along with seven great-grandchildren. Patricia was preceded in death by her father, Richard Berland; mother, Dulce Berland; brothers, Douglas Stemple, and Robert Berland; and her son, Robert Lowry. Her hobbies included camping, horseback riding, skiing, music, playing the piano, and she was an avid traveler, exploring new places whenever she had the opportunity. Patricia's life will be celebrated at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, on 10/28/2024 at 1:00 pm 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106, followed by a gathering at her home.
