Pamela Marie Sowby Housley

Pamela Marie Sowby Housley passed away peacefully on Monday, June 7, at Carrington Court due to lingering health conditions. She was born on June 8, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Wendell and Laurene Sowby. She graduated from Highland High School and was a lifelong fan of the Utah Utes and Dallas Cowboys – and was a season ticketholder for the Red Rocks women’s gymnastics team for over 20 years.

She married Tyler K. Housley in 1980 and they welcomed their son TK in 1982. Their family was sealed for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple on March 17, 2001. From that time forward, Pam loved to visit the temple and went frequently, both individually, as well as with family and ward members – as she expressed how wonderful she felt when there.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she had many opportunities to serve. Her favorite callings were in the Relief Society and Primary - and she loved to sing from the Children’s Song Book, read with little ones, and help with crafts and stories. She was a great example of how to serve with your whole heart.

Her love language was gift-giving and she was often found dropping off sugar cookies and hand-crafted presents for both special occasions and the random day when she felt someone needed a boost. Her thoughtful and careful planning of Christmas presents, a special card to be mailed, and her sharing of any candy she had tucked away in her purse will be missed by all who were showered by her love in small tokens.

She loved to read, play the piano, and watch movies – and enjoyed many date nights with her husband going to “dinner and a show”. She also loved live arts and was a season ticketholder at Hale Center Theatre. But her most favorite evenings were Chick-Fil-a nights with her granddaughters and then back to the house to play and soak in the special moments.

Pam was devoted to her family and was an attentive daughter, proud sister, adored auntie, thoughtful wife, and enthusiastic mother. Countless hours were spent tougher on Sunday evenings, enjoying dinner, songs by TK & “cousin-siblings”, and cheering for whatever favored team was playing. Her love of her ancestors was tangible, as she actively participated in reunions and flowers at gravesites every Memorial Day. She especially enjoyed being a grandmother to two wonderful and energetic granddaughters. She was a strong supporter at family sporting events and recitals of nieces & nephews, and never missed an opportunity to cheer for and with her family in anything they tried.

Pam enjoyed a 29-year career with Intermountain Healthcare at Primary Children’s Hospital. She worked as a medical secretary in the Pediatric Surgery Unit until she retired in 2016. She loved the doctors, nurses, and administrative staff and always joked that in another life she should have gone to nursing school. She kept the office running like clockwork – and knew exactly who to call to troubleshoot any setbacks, and usually befriended them along the way. She was elated to be surrounded by children all day and took great pride in her part of the teamwork needed to make them well.

She is survived by husband, Tyler, son TK (Jaree), and granddaughters, Taylor and Rowan – as well as brothers, Ken (Dana) Sowby and John Sowby, and their children Jacob (Jaimi), SarahAnn, Whitney, and Zach. Also, survived by a robust extended family who felt her love and concern for them often. A special thanks to all of her compassionate and loving caregivers at Carrington Court who assisted her in the final months of her life and managed to bring a smile to her face despite the challenges she was experiencing. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Friends and family are invited to a viewing on the evening of Wednesday, June 16 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Wasatch Lawn, 3401 South Highland Drive. In lieu of flowers, Pam requested donations to Primary Children’s Hospital.
