Norman was born November 16, 1941 in Fillmore, Utah, and grew up in the nearby town of Holden. He attended Millard High School, where he enjoyed playing football and basketball and served as Student Body President during his senior year. His leadership skills earned him a scholarship to BYU after participating in Boy’s State in Logan. Following high school, he attended BYU for a year before receiving a mission call to Switzerland, where he served faithfully for 30 months.
After returning, Norman attended summer classes at BYU, where he met Beverly Jean Sell from Chicago in a humanities class. Though Beverly returned to Chicago the following semester, the two exchanged letters, became engaged over the phone just three weeks later, and were married on December 18, 1964, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Norman completed his studies at BYU, and the couple moved to Las Vegas, where he worked for an accounting firm. In 1974, they relocated to Bountiful, Utah, where Norman and four partners undertook a real estate development project on the east bench. In 1989, Norman and Beverly moved to St. George, Utah.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Norman served in many capacities throughout his life. Together with Beverly, he served missions in Innsbruck, Austria; Nuremberg, Germany; and Atlanta, Georgia. He was passionate about family history and excelled in genealogical research, leaving a legacy of dedication to his ancestors.
Norman cherished time with family and friends. He loved organizing family vacations to the beach or cabin, boating, fishing, playing cards, floating the river, and sharing stories. Known for his sense of humor, Norman enjoyed teasing, telling jokes, and orchestrating pranks to keep spirits high. He was always ready to take on a project, encouraging others to join in and share the experience.
A loyal BYU football fan, Norman’s enthusiasm for the game matched his zest for life. He will be remembered for his humor, his devotion to family, and his enduring faith and love for those around him.
Norman is survived by his wife Beverly and his six children, Bradford (Amy) Dobson, Stephenie Dobson, Jennifer Dobson, Matthew Dobson, Spencer (Alicia) Dobson, Roxanne (Karl) Thurman, his 23 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, sister JoLue (Kreig) Kelley, brother Stephen Dobson, sister-in-law Karen Dobson. He is preceded in death by his parents Don Roger and Phyllis Stephenson Dobson, and brother Allen Dobson.
To honor Norm’s wishes this holiday season, the family has decided to have a private family celebration.
