Margaret Hekking Jensen, 67, passed away suddenly on August 16, 2014. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Margaret was born on October 14, 1946 in Haarlem, Netherlands to Pieter and Akke (Annie) Hekking and was the fourth of five children. The family immigrated to the US in 1949, settling in Utah. She grew up in the Sugarhouse area eventually graduating from South High School. As a young girl Margaret was a free spirit, full of life, outgoing and social. It has been said that she was very loyal to her friends. She was also a hard worker throughout her life.
She met her future sweetheart, David Allen Jensen for the first time in junior high school, but didn’t meet again until after David had returned from Vietnam. They married in Las Vegas on February 27, 1970 and settled in the Salt Lake City area. From the time of their marriage they were inseparable. Margaret’s early qualities were also seen throughout her adult life. She had fierce love and pride for her husband and four children, considering her children and grandchildren to be her greatest accomplishments. She was a lively conversationalist and could quickly put anyone at ease. Later in life, with David’s encouragement she eagerly tried new things and found that she loved outdoor activities such as golfing, camping, and she and David were especially fond of boating, water skiing and anything Bear Lake. She was a great cook and baker and never missed a chance to experiment on her family with new recipes. She was a devoted Utah Jazz and BYU Cougars fan, and, in fact, enjoyed watching most sports. She also loved to dance, and loved music, particularly Elvis.
The most touching tribute comes from one of her sons, “She was the mother of all mothers. She was never scared to tell you what she was thinking. She treated everyone like they were her own kids. She is an amazing lady.”
She is survived by her husband, David; children, Christopher (Lisa), Tereasa (Casey), Quentin (Sheila), Tyrel (Shannon); grandsons, Spencer, Brody, Connor, Brayden; brothers and sister, Lou (Kathy), Andy (Sharron), John (Nancy), Betty (Ken). She is preceded in death by her parents.
