Lynn George Miller, born on September 8, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lewis and Johanna Miller. Lynn was the second oldest in a family that included his older brother Greg, and younger siblings Marie, Chris, and Shawn. His life was marked by a deep devotion to family, faith, and service.
While growing up Lynn mastered all that he tried. From scuba diving to roller skating, from playing music, to gardening, to teaching himself Spanish, Lynn approached each endeavor with confidence as he never even questioned whether he would be great at whatever he tried. He loved the game of golf because it was a passion that he shared with his father and brother, creating cherished memories.
Two of the most transformative years of Lynn's life were spent serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in London, England. This experience profoundly influenced him, shaping his character and guiding his path. Lynn’s conversion and mission service were memories that he regularly shared his entire adult life. Just days before his passing, he shared precious mission experiences with his son and others serving missions, a testament to the enduring impact of his time in London. Wherever Lynn went, he testified of the love of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
A dedicated law enforcement officer, Lynn served with distinction in Salt Lake City and Naples, Florida. His commitment to justice was matched only by his unwavering compassion for those in need, a reflection of his deep-rooted faith. He received many awards for heroism and excellence in providing public service.
Lynn loved to make things clean and beautiful. He never sat still and was always painting, cleaning, repairing, and improving. He took great pride in making beautiful whatever he touched. Additionally, he loved to read books, especially those he brought back from England. He regularly shares what he learned with those he loved.
Lynn dearly loved his precious children – Nanci Jo, Lewis, Michael, and Billy, who preceded Lynn in death. He equally cherished his grandchildren – Kennedy, Ethan, and Gary. Lynn wanted nothing but happiness and joy for them. His ex-wife Diana remained a close and dear friend until he passed.
Lynn's life, like all lives, was not without pain. He endured hard experiences with faith. Yet, one of his favorite topics was enduring with joy. He often said, "The Savior loves to restore what cannot be restored;
He loves to heal wounds you cannot heal; He loves to fix what has been irreparably broken; He compensates for any unfairness inflicted on us; He loves to permanently mend even shattered hearts." No matter what the trial, Lynn smiled, laughed, and relied on his faith.
Just days before his passing from natural causes, Lynn reminded his loved ones, "Time flies on wings of lightning; We cannot call it back. It comes, then passes forward along its onward track. And if we are not mindful, the chance will fade away, for life is quick in passing. 'Tis as a single day." Lynn's passing on May 5, 2024, leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He now joins the ranks of the Angels and we look forward to the day when he greets us with a smile, a joke, and a story like only Lynn can tell.
Rest in peace dear husband, father, son, brother, friend, and protector, knowing that your kindness, faith, and testimony have forever impacted us. Until we meet again.
