KRISTIN ANN WESTER
Kristin Ann Wester, our beautiful daughter, mother, sister and friend passed away April 9, 2014 after a long and valiant fight against cancer.
She was born November 21, 1976 in Irving, Texas to Taylor McKay Wright and Roberta Ann Bland and her father always called her his "Green-Eyed Texan".
Kristin married Shawn E. Wester on June 18, 2005 (later divorced). They had two beautiful daughters--Sarah and Kailyn, who were the love of her life! Kristin wanted to live for them and watch them grow. She enjoyed taking them to many places and giving them new experiences. She especially enjoyed taking them to the aquarium, and recently took them on a trip to Yellowstone and Bear World.
Kristin graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1994 with honors, and was also awarded the prestigious Sterling Scholar in Music award. She was an accomplished trombone player and also played the flute and the piano. She received the Presidential Scholarship to Utah State University, where she participated in a trombone ensemble as she achieved her degree in Elementary Education. She subsequently earned her Master's degree in Education at the University of Utah.
She taught school for 17 years and most recently taught at Altara Elementary and Mount Jordan Middle School. Kristin had a great love of learning and always worked to also instill this in her students. She especially enjoyed teaching 6th grade. Kristin was highly regarded by her students, their parents, and her peers, by having her students learn and perform a Shakespeare play during the school year. This was always a highly anticipated event and annual highlight for the students.
Kristin loved to read and was always sharing bits of wisdom. She was extremely talented in many areas and she shared her many talents with others, including sewing fabulous period costumes, painting, calligraphy, cross-stitching masterpieces, cooking and music. She was very hands-on, and was also very interested in learning new skills and tackling new projects, such as installing fencing and staining it, painting and decorating rooms, planting flowers and shrubs, designing her patio, sanding her deck, etc.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kristin had an abiding faith in Christ and actively served in many callings. Her life of righteousness, endurance, service, and love will continue as a great example and strength to many.
Kristin was always very thoughtful and put a lot of effort in choosing just the right gifts for Christmas, birthdays and special occasions. Her smile, wit and wisdom will be greatly missed!
