Ivy Ellen Franchow

Ivy was one of those rare people who was loved by all who knew her because of her beautiful, kind, accepting and generous soul. She will be missed by many.

She was born Oct. 25th, 1927 to Sarah Paterson Rorison Franchow and Christopher Frank Franchow in Eggertsville, NY. Ivy was the second of six children. Her siblings were: Christopher, James, Adam, John and Margaret.

During Ivy’s youth, the family lived in Williamsville and Buffalo in upstate New York.

Ivy excelled in school, she had a “photographic memory” and studied multiple languages.

The family moved west in 1950, arriving in the Salt Lake Valley on July 4th.

Ivy soon settled into a career, joining the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union in 1951. She worked for Wirthlin’s and then Smith’s grocery stores, retiring in 1989. After retirement, Ivy enjoyed art classes, winning awards for her ceramics.

Ivy had a life-long passion for cooking. The meals prepared for family and friends over the years were legendary. She loved animals, having many dogs and cats and supporting animal rights causes.

She was a spiritual person who prayed daily. She believed “In God all things are possible”.

Ivy was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Christopher, James and Margaret. Survived by brothers Adam Franchow and John Franchow as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.

A viewing for family and friends with graveside service to follow will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, November 23rd at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Dr., Salt Lake City.
