Harold "Hal" George Hardy Jr.

Harold George Hardy, Jr., age 89, our father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend peacefully passed from this mortal life on July 2, 2024 due to natural causes surrounded by loving family members in Riverton, Utah.

Born December 13, 1934 to Harold George Hardy and Virginia Ruth Nielsen in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Harold served as a reservist in the Navy for eight years and spent time training in California. He chose to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints rather than go into active duty.

Harold was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission in the Northern California Mission, where he met his future wife, Shirlene Atkinson. He held many callings in the Church and loved to serve in the Jordan River Temple as a temple worker.

Harold and Shirlene were married September 4, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had 10 children and later divorced.

Several years after his divorce, Harold married Barbra Gisseman. They were married for 16 years before divorcing.

Harold was a very hard worker and provider for his family. He worked at the Salt Lake City Airport for Western Airlines (later bought by Delta Airlines) for 35 years. He worked outside on the Ramp, in Lost and Found and Baggage Claim. He also took on part time jobs as a milkman, gas station attendant, armored car driver, package courier and rental car return driver to provide for his large family.

Harold took great pride in all his work. He spoke frequently about the home he built in Granger, Utah for his family and was very proud of his accomplishment. He also worked hard to keep his lawns mowed and well trimmed. He was a friend to many and we would joke there was not a place you could go with him and not run into someone he knew.

Harold loved to golf and would go with his friends and sons whenever he could until his shoulder was injured in a car accident and he was unable to participate in the sport.

Survived by siblings: brother, Larry (Ann (deceased), Dixie (deceased) Hardy; sister, Janice (Robert (deceased) Ellis; sister, Jeanne (Larry) Jewkes; 10 nephews and nieces, many great-nephews and nieces, children David, Dale, Douglas (Becky), Daniel (Titin), Dwayne (Sheri), Melanie (Troy), Margaret (Steve), Darrell (Madeline), Dean, and Maureen (Russell); 37 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Virginia; nephew, Matt Jewkes; niece, Sandra Ellis Alley; grandsons, Eric Hardy and Brayden Black; former wife, Shirlene; sisters’ in-law, Ann and Dixie; brother in-law, Robert and former wife Barbra.

A special thank you to Victoria, Amber, Sheila and Gretchen his Intermountain Hospice care team. The dignity, love and respect shown to him will never be forgotten.

Graveside services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park 3401 South Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah 84106 on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. A private family celebration of life will be held later.
