George Lawrence Stone III, was born February 18, 1939 in Melrose, MA to loving parents, George Lawrence Stone II and Avis Lydia Cassaboom Stone. He died February 28th, 2021 at the age of 82 in Salt Lake City, UT after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his younger brother Mark Stone.
George was drafted into the Army at the age of 18 and honorably discharged 2 years later. He met the love of his life, Roberta Oughton, in California in 1963 when they began working together at White Front (department store). They were married on July 9th 1965 and moved to Salt Lake to be closer to her family. They had 3 children: George “Sandy” Lawrence Stone IV, Babett Stone-Shewell & Amber Leann Stone.
In his younger years he loved buying cars and fixing them up to sell, playing a round of golf, and lift weights 2-3 times a week. Cars & motorcycles were a passion that followed him into his later years. He owed and fixed up 2 “Z” cars (280Z and a 300Z). That were passed down to his son and son-in-law.
Musical talent has always run in the Stone family. George’s mother Avis was a Jazz singer, and his Father George played the drums. His grandfather George B Stone wrote instructional percussion books. George frequently played the guitar to release stress.
He is survived by his wife Roberta Stone, his children Sandy, Babett, Amber, and his two sisters Marian Yamauchi and Sam Stone.
