Frederick Schiller

July 9, 1950 – March 6, 2021

Frederick (Fred) Edward Schiller was the first born of Merrill Edward Schiller and Gwenna Fae Reinhold. He was born in Oklahoma City where the family was stationed through the Air Force. The family moved several times until landing back in Idaho Falls where Fred went to high school. The family made one more move before Fred’s senior year to Utah and he graduated from Clearfield High School. Fred went on to earn a degree in Sociology from Utah State University.

During his college years, Fred was known for his guitar playing and his brilliant ski moves on the hardest of trails. Summers, during his college years, were spent working at Yellowstone National Park where he enjoyed all the park had to offer and told tales of his adventures for years afterwards. He also is remembered for his passion for history and politics and countless deep discussions on current affairs.

After college, Fred spent his career working as a bar manager for several country clubs with Cottonwood Country Club being where he spent the bulk of his time and from where he retired not long ago. The family was fortunate that Fred made sure there were good wines for family holiday dinners and always carved the turkey at Thanksgiving.

His favorite pastime was watching tennis especially Serena and Venus Williams. He enjoyed relaxing by watching late night talk shows after working at the club. He liked life better the old ways and was not consumed by technology and never owned a cell phone. He was not consumed by wealth and success and lived a simple uncomplicated life. He was loyal and reliable and would help out during the hard times and could be called upon in a crisis to help out.

As Uncle Fred, he is remembered by his nieces Bridget and Erin for drives in his truck to Antelope Island listening to N*Sync and Christina Aguilera, trick or treating on Halloween even in the Wyoming wind and snow, and hanging with the last ones standing at get-togethers. He was always there to listen and just go with the flow.

Fred spent time with his brother Jim and nephew Jared going fishing, attending Fleet Week in California, watching sports, and playing and discussing music with his favorite artists being Bob Dylan and the Beatles. His sister Jan will remember how he helped her through her husband Jeff’s death and how he was there to lend a listening ear whenever needed.

Fred also welcomed Bridget’s husband Chris and Jared’s wife Tara into the family and enjoyed spending time with them as part of our family. He thought the world of having a grand nephew Sebastian and grand niece Cadence. He talked to kids as if they we were on his level and loved to show them things.

As a family, we will miss Fred terribly, but our memories of him will live on indefinitely. May he rest in love and peace.
