David Calvin Pond, of Millcreek, Utah, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 10, 2022. He was 79 years old.
He was born in Salt Lake City on November 5, 1942 to Eugene Calvin Pond and Helen Coleman. He was their third child, the first and only boy, of what would be 5 children. He was loved and adored by his parents and his 4 sisters. He loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing, and hunting. He was an Eagle Scout, a good student, and an accomplished High School and Collegiate athlete. He graduated from BYU with a Masters in Physical Education and eventually taught Math at Olympus High School and Hunter Jr. High. He also taught Drivers Education and Swimming at Olympus High school for many years. In addition, he was a highly successful Girls’ and Boys’ Tennis Coach, leading his teams to multiple state championships.
He was member of the Army Reserve and enjoyed his time serving in the Armed Forces.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as a missionary in Sydney, Australia, and later enjoyed various Church callings. He also served for 11 years at the Salt Lake City Temple with his wife and thoroughly enjoyed his time there.
He married Carol Lynn Dunroe on June 6, 1967. Together they had one daughter, Christin Lee, who was the joy of their lives. She and her husband, Brad Gale, eventually had four children, Ryan, Megan, Coleman, and Madalyn, who in turn added to their joy and fulfillment.
David loved to travel and was able to travel around the world with his wife and daughter. In addition, he loved boating, going to the cabin, gardening, and working on projects at the farm of his daughter and her family.
David’s greatest joy was his family. He loved to watch his daughter, and then later his grandchildren, perform in athletics, academics and the arts. He was the grandpa who was always there. He was so proud of them all and found joy in his posterity.
David was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his older sister Caroline Harvey, and his younger sister Marietta Pond. He is survived by his loving spouse Carol, his daughter Christin (Brad Gale), his 4 grandchildren, and his sisters Eileen Baker and Helen Jane Midgley. He was loved by many and will be missed.
David’s funeral will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the Valley View Stake Center, located at 2240 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City. The funeral will also be broadcast on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/c/SaltLakeValleyViewStakeBroadcasts. Prior to the funeral, there will be a viewing held on Friday, March 18th from 6-8 PM, also at the Stake Center, and then on Saturday morning, prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 10:45 AM. Interment will then be at the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery in Salt Lake City.
