Our beloved husband, father and brother passed away from pneumonia on Saturday April 25, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on December 1, 1946 to Ted and Dorothy Hockett. David married Frederika Meyer, the love of his life, on May 24, 1973.
David is survived by his wife Frederika, son Christopher, daughter Tina, sister Carol Elmer, and brother Jerry. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Randy, sister Lori and nephew David Elmer.
David loved to play sports, especially with his father Ted. He started at a very young age as a bat boy for his father’s softball team. Later in life, David and his father played softball, golfed and bowled together. David proudly volunteered to be a medic in the US Army Reserves in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1972.
Unfortunately, David and Frederika were in a terrible motorcycle accident in 1969, which left David with a traumatic brain injury. Despite the brain injury and many medications he was on to control his seizures, he was a wonderful husband and father. He worked two jobs to support our family so his wife could stay home to raise Chris and Tina. He took the time to coach youth soccer and bowling. He also taught Tina how to pitch softball. He supported his children in all of their extracurricular activities, and was very proud of them.
The family would like to thank the staff at Midtown Manor nursing home and Inspiration Hospice for their kind and loving care of David.
Funeral services will be held Saturday May 2nd at 11 am at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 S. Highland Drive. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm and one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Interment will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park
