Daniel H Letham, 91 passed away peacefully at home with his sweetheart, Darlene “Doll” by his side on December 23, 2021. He was anxiously awaited by family & friends in heaven. Dan was born Sept. 8, 1930 in Centerfield, Utah. Preceded in death by parents, Andrew & Dialeth Letham, siblings Virginia, Daryl & Duane, grandsons Daniel Chidester, Tony Means & Joseph Randall (JR) O’Reilly. Dan is lovingly remembered by his children, Jo Letham, Keith (Nona) Letham, Lynn (John) Mortensen, Mark (Banya) Letham, Jan (Joseph) Chidester, 22 amazing grandchildren, 65 delightful great-grandchildren and 1 beautiful great-great granddaughter.
His family moved to SLC in 1939, he grew & played in the Sugarhouse area, working as a teen at local businesses and graduating from South High. As a newlywed he became a journeyman plumber. His interest in electronics led him to a career with IBM retiring after 28 years of service.
Dan had a multitude of talents, from wood, wire or pipes he could build it or FIX IT! Dan & his wife Darlene are known for modeling relief maps that are on display in state capitols and museums. He earned his Eagle Scout and was active in scouting for many years, serving in a multitude of roles.
Dan built an electronic pinewood derby track with undisputed results! He also designed the first animated Days of 47 parade float. His “jumping Crickets” won the 1990 Sweepstakes award & 1st place in the historical category.
In his workshop he created numerous useful & creative items. He was a prolific writer of poetry, short stories & short novels. His interests included photography, ceramics and wood carving. Dan shared his talents and served others with a wonderful grin & sparkling blue eyes. Most of all he was kind, helpful & honest. He will be deeply missed by his wife and family. We wish to thank Bristol Hospice for all their support caring for Dan.
Dan “our family SUPER-HERO” will be celebrated on January 4th, 2022 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Chapel, 3401 Highland Drive SLC, UT. Viewing at 9 A.M. Funeral at 10 A.M. Interment to follow service. In consideration of all, masks are required.
