Cheryl Hurst Galloway was born in Salt Lake City to James S and Cecelia Mae Hurst on July 19, 1950. She grew up in East Mill Creek, attended Sherman Elementary, Evergreen Jr High, and graduated from Skyline High School in 1968.
Cheryl married Scot Galloway (later divorced), and they had one son, Robert. She lived much of her life in the East Mill Creek area, and had many strong friendships with neighbors. Although Cheryl was short in height, 5’2½” (that ½ inch was important!), she had a heart big enough for everyone and enough sass to leave an impression. During harvest season and the holidays she would often be found helping her mom with canning and making holiday treats. After moving into her assisted-living apartment, she often mentioned that she missed cooking. She also quite enjoyed listening to the Tabernacle Choir and singing in the ward choir.
If there was one thing Cheryl was proud of, it was being a mom. She never missed a school event, whether Robert was playing the clarinet or singing, or in the school play. She never said "no", even though she should have sometimes. After Robert met Becky, Cheryl took her under her care just the same. She looked forward to driving Becky to her dialysis treatments during the week for several years before Becky got her own license. Later in life, she served a service mission at Welfare Square.
Cheryl is survived by her son Robert, her siblings, all brothers, Steve (Barbara), Mike (Stacy), Dave (Linda), Nate (Tonya), and John. Also survived by her best friend, Marilyn Berntsen.
Cheryl passed away on June 18, returning to the loving arms of her parents. The family would like to thank the staff at Pacifica Assisted Living, and Inspiration Hospice, in Millcreek, for their care during her final chapter.
A memorial service for family and close friends will be held graveside at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park (3401 S Highland Dr.) on Cheryl’s birthday, July 19, 2022 at 3:00 PM.
