William George Painter, 72, of Goochland, Va., passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019, at home surrounded by his loving family. Bill grew up in South Richmond and attended George Wythe High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Stuart Painter and Vera Rivers Painter; brother, Eugene "Mickey" Painter; and most recently, his brother-in-law, Phillip Paul Tarsovich. He is survived by his wife, Ann Carrington Painter; son, Shaun Mahoney; daughter, Molly Mahoney; as well as his granddaughter, Maddie Mahoney; and grandson, Cole Griffin. Bill is also survived by his brothers, Frank Stuart Painter Jr. (Carolyn), Larry Wayne Painter; sister, Mary Painter Holloway; brother-in-law, Randy Carrington (Diane); two sisters-in-law, Fran Carrington and Jane Carrington Tarsovich; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Bill joined the Marines at age 17 and served two tours in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. In his pre-retirement years he worked in computer operations. Bill was happiest sitting on the beach at the Outer Banks deciding where to go out to eat and spending time at the cabin in Nellysford which he and his brother Stuart built. He loved being a den leader for Troop 710 and coaching T-Ball and Coach Pitch in Goochland.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Dr., North Chesterfield, Va. 23235.
