Nécrologie de Susan Hall
Susan Frye Hall, age 75, of Powhatan, Virginia passed away at her home on May 25, 2023. She was best known to her friends and family as “Suzie”, “Suz”, “Mom”, or for the last 32 years just as the “Marmee”, a role she always said that she was born for. Suzie was born June 4, 1947 at Cleveland, Ohio to Don Barton Frye, Sr. and Lucille Reed Frye. She graduated from Groveton High School, Alexandria, Virginia, and attended Beckley College, Beckley, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Captain Garry R. Hall USN (retired), brother Bart Frye; sister Patricia Goheen; children Michelle Pelkey, Cynthia Nichols, and Michael Hall; grandchildren Jack Pelkey, Bethany and Travis Nichols, Jesse, Joshua, and Jameson Hall; nieces Kathy Edwards, Linda Smith, and Stephanie Miles, and nephews Brian and Barton Quigley. Suzie was 20 years old when she was married in Alexandria, Virginia. She had a long career in the field of orthodontics and dentistry, first starting as an orthodontic assistant in Alexandria, Virginia. Later Suzie formed her own orthodontic appliance laboratory and finished the last 20 years of her career as office manager of a large orthodontic practice in Northern Virginia. Suzie was a hard worker throughout her life, and always involved herself with volunteer work and supporting her children’s activities, such as leader of Brownie Troop 546. Throughout her husband’s U.S. Navy career of over 30 years, Suzie was the quintessential Navy wife, supporting her husband’s naval service and the Navy community as ship’s ombudsman, and volunteer work with the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, and base youth and wives’ clubs. No matter where her husband was stationed or home ported, Suzie always established a welcoming home for her family. Suzie had many passions and hobbies including cooking, sewing, reading mystery novels, playing Scrabble and other board games, summer visits to Vermont, and spending time with her children and grandchildren, and pets. Her cooking skills were widely known with family and friends. Her dishes were often just called “Marmee Food”, but among the most requested from her kitchen were her top-notch pumpkin and pecan pies. A Memorial Service will be held at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel in Midlothian, Virginia on June 9, 2023 from 1-5 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you please consider making a donation in her memory to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, https://support.nmcrs.org/a/homepage.
