Northern Maine has lost a friend in John Gelardi.  Karen and I join with everyone here at Munsungan Lake in wishing his family the blessings of all that is good in this world.  We will miss John and his ready smile very much.

Our family is sadden to learn of John's passing.  Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the entire Gelardi family.

We have fond memories of John's early days at Goose Fair, the first Christmas at Rocky Pasture, the fishing trips to Munsungan, and our trip to Disneyland with John and Karen.  

Our children Jon, Ali, and Amy will always remember John, he is in our prayers.

I was a friend of John's son John warren, and he was a great father as was shown by his sons character.

John was a wonderful friend at Syracuse University.  He lived across the hall and found something to make us laugh about almost every day of our Sophomore year.  He was creative, dedicated and obviously devoted to his family, even as a college student.  I am sorry that we didn't stay in touch after college, but am so pleased to see that all the qualities we adored him for were the same qualities that took him forward so successfully into his adult life.  From the many messages here, it is easy to see that he adored and cherished his family, had passion for his work and clearly shared his passion with others.  John always had a self-satisfaction that I envied.  He was happy from the inside out and shared that contentment with others.  I am deeply sorry for his entire family and this devastating loss. I was deeply shocked to learn of John's death, having worked with him for many years.  It seems incredibly unfair that his remarkable energy, creativity and leadership should come to an end so prematurely.  John made a lasting impression on all those he met and was an inspiration to many.

I will greatly miss my conversations with John, whom I knew for eleven years.  He was always forward-thinking, deeply committed to improving upon the present and focused on guiding others to a common vision.  He was an artist and innovator, but he also understood the human impact of design and leadership.  We miss miss his special magic.  

My thoughts are with his family, whom we must support as a community as they contend with the loss of a father and husband.  I want to thank John's father Tony for his time with me during the reception at the Flood's home.  Tony weaved the most wonderful stories about the young, brash, brilliant John, creating design innovations at the age of 14 and providing a US President with much-needed fishing advice.

Being a friend of his children, I have grown to know and look up to Mr. Gelardi greatly. I will never forget how much he inspired his children and the way he brightened everyones day (including bradys', the dog).He will be missed by anyone who ever had the privilege of knowing him.

We were lucky to have John in our family and although we only got to see him during our holidays in the U.S., or whenever Elisebeth managed to drag him to Norway:p, we all feel that we got to know him really well. How does one even begin to tell you how sorry they are for your loss and fathom life without John here.
His humor, his laugh, his enjoyment of the simple things like a back yard BBQ or building a snow ramp for tubing off the back deck- understanding why you get up early on vacation to run around Walt Disney World in your safari clothes- going fishing not only before work, but after, too, are but a few of the things that will be sorely missed.
As a friend, he'd do anything for you. John  genuinely appreciated your company, listen to what you had to say and was always passionate in his opinions and beliefs. 
His dedication to his profession, always reading, educating himself, his love for his family and the pure enjoyment he found with Brady are just a few of the attributes John possessed and others learned from.
It's very rare when you can say that there isn't a person that doesn't like someone, but in John's case, I don't believe he had an enemy in the world!
Everyone that knows him is better for it, and the world is better place because he was here.

Not only was John one of the most talented people I have ever worked with, he was just a nice person.... period.  I am truly blessed to have known him.  My condolences to his family.

I am so sorry about everything. Mr. Gelardi was a really great guy. In fact only time I remember him not smiling is when he would try to steer me and Erik the right way, granted it was usually my fault. This last weekend before it all I actually took a tour through rocky pasture and I hope you'd all like to know, despite its surrounding real estate, the house, it's almost as good as the way you all left it except for the fact that yall aren't here. I am still shocked though. he was a great man and a great father, and although I didn't notice it while I was so young but he set a real president for me in the way that he conducted himself and his long list on inventions and oatents is a true inspiration to me and many others. He made and still continues to make me realize that intelligence it a gift and although you don't always pick the hand youre delt, you can pick its arrangement and perhaps make something out of it, or at least give an attempt, all of you obtain to some degree of this the understanding that he was able to share, and in my case flip it into inspiration. Since I started working for John, I always said that he is one of the best leaders I have ever known.  Every one of us in the design group was excited to get up in the morning and come into work for him.  That is the atmosphere that John created and sustained every single day.  I keep thinking of this: in the Old Testament, the King of Israel was the people's strength, protector, and provider.  He counseled them, he fought for them, and he loved them. John was all those things for us.  It feels like we have lost our beloved king.  Elisebeth, John Warren, Bella, Erik, Sonja: John spoke of you all the time.  He loved you so much.  It was always a wonder to me how so much love and passion could exist in one man. I am so sorry and so sad to lose him and so incredibly thankful to have known him.

There are no words that can describe how I feel about John. We worked together a long time and in recent years I worked for him. I can honestly say he was the best Manager, Coach, Mentor and a close friend. We talked almost daily. Even in recent weeks he would ask me to call or give him an update, mostly he was asking if I had been fishing yet. John and I went offshore a few times and both times my son was there. He was amazed because John could rig the poles, cut the bait, and steer the boat better than the Captain. He was selfless in many ways. Instead of taking his turn catching fish he was more concerned with capturing every moment on film or helping my young son Zak. We went again last year and John brought Eric with him. That was a good trip too and the fishing was slow, but John smiled the whole time. He was so supportive of me and always asked how I was doing. John was more than a manager, more than my mentor, more than a coach. He was and is a friend that I loved and we shared a lot of common interest. The one thing that always impressed me was how much he loved his family. He talked often of the kids and spoke of you Elizabeth often. One word describes John for me... and that is PASSION. He was passionate about his work, he was passionate about fishing, but most of all he was passionate about his family.
John was the glue in design team. He was for me the anchor man. He changed so many of our lives and the impact he made on us will live for ever. Most of all I will miss sharing hunting and fishing stories with John. 
We are praying for you during this difficult time. John will truly be missed.

I feel very honored and privileged to have been fortunate enough to work for John for the last five years.  Not only was he my boss, but more importantly, he was my mentor and design hero.  His passion and roll-up-his-sleeves attitude will continue to inspire me throughout my career and life. I had the distinct pleasure of working with John at Mead Westvaco.  He was bright, courteous and professional.  More importantly he was a joy to work with and had such a positive attitude. Upon meeting John during my interview, I was blown away by his eloquence, intelligence, and charisma. He is one of the main reasons I joined MWV and that we are all blessed with such amazing jobs. 

For a few months, I was spoiled with the opportunity to sit at the desk right next to his, allowing me the great convenience of having John right by my side, literally. I thoroughly enjoyed eavesdropping on his conversations (especially to Elisebeth, him still always calling her his Bride), and chatting with him throughout the day. I thoroughly enjoyed joking around with him from jokingly saying he needs to protect his face, which is why he avoids playing tennis, to singing the Friday song before setting up the Canal Monster to the reason why I only drink vodka and water...

His passion was extraordinary, his sense of humor was comforting, his humility was refreshing, and his brilliance was breathtaking. We all have so much to thank John for - not even a lifetime of gratitude will suffice.

Our deepest condolences to the Gelardi family. Our hearts feel so heavy and sad at the loss of our dear friend and neighbor.  John always had such a nice smile and warm disposition whenever we saw him.  We could tell that he loved the outdoors and loved his family and that he was such a brilliant, talented man.  We miss him deeply and pray that God will give the Gelardi family strength during this difficult time.

I will remember my years of working with John as some of the most rewarding of my life.  His drive and passion showed in everything he did and he expected nothing but the best.  He was an inspiring mentor who truly cared for those around him and will be missed terribly.  The Gelardi family and MWV family are in my thoughts during this difficult time.  It was an honor to know John.

John Gelardi was an incredibly talented businessman and left his mark professionally on this world. But more than that, he was a wonderful husband to Elisebeth. He always had wonderful uplifting words to describe her. As a father, there was no better man. His face literally "lit up" when any one of his children entered the room. My family and I were fortunate enough to spend many birthdays, Christmas Eves and ski trips with them. Our two sons are better human beings for having the Gelardis in our lives. How i cherish the informal get togethers at his beloved Rocky Pasteurs in Maine. So much fun, so much laughter and and hospitality.     

No man ever loved his family and his friends more than John. We will miss him terribly.

In working with John in the MWV Raleigh location, it was apparent to me that his family's contentment was his foremost focus, when moving in and then out of the area.  What was also apparent to me was he considered his work team as a second family.  He took very seriously the role of mentor and was certainly well equipped from his depth of experience to be the best.

I've only known John for 5 years. I was with him last December at our Cabin Bluff resort. He wasn't feeling well and missed dinner, yet he stayed and gave my customers a fantastic presentation. I will never forget that. He was a true professional. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.

I worked with John at the MWV Product Development Center in Kennebunk ME until 2007.  His sudden loss is very difficult to bear.  My family shares your grief and sends our deepest sympathies to the Gelardi family.  Although we cannot be with you in this time of grief our thoughts and prayers are with you from afar.

I have known John for less than two years, but it did not take long to realize that he was a truly exceptional person.   Regardless of the situation, whether at work or at leisure, John was infectiously passionate and enthusiastic.   An encounter with John always left you feeling better and happier.   I am deeply saddened by John's passing but will always be grateful for having the chance to know him.   I am truly sorry for your loss.

John was the most driven, hard working and talented individual that I know. He will be sorely missed. Having worked closely with John for the last several years, I learned that if you are going to do something, do it well. That is what he did and that is how I will remember him. Just a note to let all know that John was a terrific professional and colleague, a very personal friend, a brother as a Believer in God, and even an effervescent and frequent companion in the gym.
