Gladys Virginia O'Kennon

A beloved wife and mother, she was born in Emporia, the daughter of Sam and Burnell Tudor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira E. O'Kennon Jr.; her parents; her brother, Larry Tudor and his wife June. She is survived by her daughter, Toni Shumate and her husband John, daughter, Debbie O'Kennon and several nieces and one nephew.

She graduated from Petersburg High School, and was co-owner of the Hungry Penguin Restaurant in Richmond. Her hobbies included traveling, reading and volunteering in church. She was an active member of Bon Air Baptist Church since 1964 and attended the Fidelis Grace Sunday School Class and Prime Timers. Her first priority was always her family, to whom she was devoted.

She is in the care of the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where the family will receive friends from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Monday, December 9, 2024. A funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Bon Air Baptist Church, 2531 Buford Rd, Richmond, VA 23235. Interment will follow the service at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave, Henrico, VA 23238.

She was a special mom and mom-in-law and will forever be missed. Our hearts are broken.
