MORGAN, Gerald, Jr., of Midlothian departed this life peacefully surrounded by his family on January 5th, 2011 at the age of 87. He was profoundly thankful for his life on earth and looking forward to entering God's Heavenly Kingdom. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Mary Morgan and a brother, Thomas Newbold Morgan. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Emily and his three children: David Morgan and his wife Susan, John Morgan and his wife Cheryl, Nancy Patterson and her husband Richard. Also surviving are six much-loved grandchildren: Peter, Eric, Shelley, Drew, Alex, and Claire. He looked up to all of his family members and was truly thankful for their love and loyalty.
Gerald was born in New York City and spent his youth there and in Hyde Park. He attended Groton School and Yale University. His higher education was interrupted by military service in World War II, spent as a medic in the US Army. He returned to Yale and graduated with the class of 1949. His first vocation was in the insurance business, which brought him to Richmond in 1955. His love of classical music led to the establishment of Jerritt & Morgan music store in 1969, from which he retired in 1986.
Gerald was a blessing to many and will be sorely missed but we know there is a celebration in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Organ Fund, St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 8706 Quaker lane, Richmond 23235 or the Richmond Symphony, 612 E. Grace St, Richmond 23219. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 12th at 10:00 am at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, followed by a reception in the Parish House.
