Emily Taylor Kirton-Davis (Taylor), 32, an Infectious Disease physician at the Central Virginia Veterans Affairs Health Care System, died of breast cancer December 24, 2023, at Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center. Taylor was a warrior throughout her 11 month battle with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. She fought with unending grace, strength, and courage. Taylor was a resident of Chesterfield, Va. Taylor was born in Columbia, S.C., grew up in Irmo, S.C., and graduated from Dutch Fork High School in 2009. Taylor was a 2013 graduate of the University of South Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Magna Cum Laude. Taylor also graduated with Honors from the South Carolina Honors College. Taylor was a member of Phi Mu. Taylor was a 2017 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Taylor completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health System in 2020, and was awarded the Michael Wayne Riffert, MD Award for Outstanding Intern in 2018. She served as a Chief Medical Resident at VCU Health from 2020 to 2021. Taylor completed a fellowship in Infectious Disease at VCU Health in 2023 and served as Chief Fellow in her second year. Taylor was a talented clinician, consummate medical educator, and passionate about serving her patients. While Taylor’s academic and professional accomplishments were numerous, she was most proud of being Burke and Liam’s Mom. Taylor was a talented baker, avid reader, and aspiring gardener. Taylor was a devoted friend to many and never met a dog she did not love. Survivors include her husband of seven years, David Ryan Kirton-Davis of Chesterfield, Va.; two children, Burke and Liam also of Chesterfield, Va.; her mother Kimberly Kirton of Midlothian; her sister Madeline Dobek of Columbia, S.C.; and her grandparents Al and Carolyn Knight of Fountain Inn, S.C. Taylor is also survived by many loving aunts and uncles, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and cousins. Taylor was preceded in death by her father, Michael Kirton, of Columbia, S.C. Taylor’s family would like to thank the amazing community that wrapped them in love through Taylor’s battle with cancer and continues to do so today. Above all else, Taylor wanted the people in her life to remember and celebrate her time here with us. A Celebration of Life will be held in Taylor’s honor in early March, in Richmond, Va.
