Dearest Aunt Margaret, Sandra, David, and families...

Its been almost a year since my beloved Uncle Dave left us, and almost a year since the last of that wonderful Cloer generation of 8 kids left this earth for their "Heavenly Home".  There are so many stories, so many wonderful, heart-filled memories of our rich heritage, and such precious family memories that I could never begin to share here on this limited space. I have such vivid recollections of the family homesteads in Hickory and Lenoir, and the times where we explored every nook and cranny of Grandad's farm and the surrounding land.   The intricate, hand-carved birdhouses granddad made, and his earthen floor greenhouse with the small furniture business above it...  treasuring the sights, sounds and smells of each of these were some of my strongest recollections of our childhood.

Gran and Pa's old house, with its grand rooms, the old wooden staircase, and the infamous attic bedrooms and surrounding crawlspace were a veritable child's fantasyland to explore.  I well remember the old wooden porch swing we each took turns swinging in, and the ravine at the edge of the land where the sound of the approaching trains curving around the bend fairly mesmerized us.  Every one of us grandchildren carries these precious memories in our hearts of our times together at these special places.  And visiting with Pa on the day he spoke with President Nixon on his 100th birthday was an event that none of us will never forget.    

The very essence of our Cloer blood is contained in the ties that bind us together as one family, in these lovely old homes.   Now more than ever, I find myself remembering a special event, an anecdotal story as only this generation could share with their unique Cloer storytelling, or a precious phrase that one of the siblings used to quote regularly.  And I find myself thinking of the morals, and the lifelong models, to which we all held true as we were growing up.  I will forever remain grateful to all my uncles and aunts for giving me these memories, and for allowing me to share in their lives in the unique way that they did. Uncle Dave, who reminded me so much of my own much-beloved daddy, will ALWAYS have a special corner in my heart. His tenderness, his wonderful humor, his patented stories, and the genuine compassion were traits I cherished.  Now more than ever, I continue to find myself leaning toward these teachings in my everyday life, and always will.

My heart and prayers have remained with you all as you have learned to cope with this tremendous loss over this past year.  As we reach the anniversary, I hope to share many memories with you, written over the past year- to celebrate this wonderful generation that remain so dear to all of our hearts, and so indelibly imprinted in our souls.  

I love you, and will forever remember and cherish my very precious Uncle Dave!      - Always - Pammie

David, I am very sorry for your loss.  I used to work with you several years ago at AES sports.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Margaret and family,
I worked a number of FEMA disasters with David and was excited to see him when we joined Huguenot Road Baptist Church.  David was a fine man who was highly respected by all who worked with him.  Words are sometimes of little comfort at a time like this, but please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

My prayers are with David and his family during this time.  I heard stories from David about his Dad that always made me laugh at work.  Memories never grow old; they come to life during this time and in the future.  May God bless the family.  Jean Williams

I am so sorry for your loss.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.   Although I did not personally know Mr. Cloer, he touch my life through his son, for which I will be forever grateful.
