She was born Beverly Ann Vinez in Akron, Ohio, in 1933, and moved with her family to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There, she developed her artistic talents and enjoyed an overflowing social life, including being crowned Homecoming queen.
At Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Beverly studied education, met her husband John William (Bill) Horrigan, and again wore a crown as queen of the annual Navy Ball. The couple wed in November 1955 and traveled for over two decades, from Hawaii to Virginia and points in between, as part of Bill's Navy career. Wherever the Horrigan family lived, Beverly filled their home with style, beauty, and warmth. She loved to paint, to decorate, and to renew antique furniture with original designs; her culinary talents were equally remarkable. Christmas is when her talents truly sparkled, with a family tree festooned with handmade ornaments and trays of exquisitely decorated cookies that fed family, friends, and even Bill's business clients.
Beverly's relationship with the Lord was paramount and she served in many ministries for decades (hospital and prison ministries). She and Bill were founding members of Hope Chapel in Amelia, Virginia. In recent years, she and Bill were members of Southside Church of the Nazarene in Chesterfield, Virginia. She supported many missionaries and needy children across the globe for decades.
Beverly was predeceased by her parents and eldest child, Gary Horrigan. In addition to her husband of 68 years, Beverly leaves behind a grieving but grateful extended family, including: her younger brother, Charles Vinez and wife, Nancy; daughters Brenda Horrigan¬Paradise and Cheryl Girardi, and their spouses Richard Paradise and Michael Girardi; and daughter-in-law Penny Horrigan. Missing their devoted grandmother are Garrett Girardi, Joseph Girardi, C.R. Paradise, and Margaret Girardi Timblin and husband Richard Timblin. Beverly also got to meet and hold her first great-grandchild, Bennett Timblin, a true blessing in her final year in this world.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 3rd from 6-8 p.m., and the service will be held Thursday, January 4th, 10 am at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, at 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Virginia, 23113.
The family would like especially to thank Beth Shalom, whose staff helped Bev's family care for her in the final weeks of her life.
