Violet Jean Rice

Violet was born in Bellshill, Scotland on April 10, 1929, to James and Jean Bellew. Violet arrived in the United States on the Queen Mary in 1953 and immediately reconnected with a childhood friend, Alexander Rice. They were married on December 20, 1953.

Violet and Alex had seven children. Violet spent her life raising their children in upstate New York, before retiring in Midland. She loved traveling, music, dancing and spending quality time with her grandchildren.

Violet is preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Rice, her parents and two sisters. She is survived by seven children and their spouses; Jean and Dennis Krawietz, Alexander Rice Jr., Margaret and Dennis Hendrix, Michael Rice, Elizabeth Baker, Gregory Rice and Barbara Leland, ten grandchildren; Stephanie Krawietz and John Krawietz of Dallas, Texas, Jordyn Hendrix of Fort Worth, Texas, Mark Hendrix of Midland, Texas, Jennifer Hayes of Peoria, Arizona, Jason Rice of Surprise, Arizona, Conner Rice of Phoenix, Arizona, Nichole Baker of Safford, Arizona, Cory Baker of Denton, Texas and Chad Leland of Eugene, Oregon, plus six great grandchildren.

Visitation and a rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on August 15th at Ellis Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on August 16th at St. Stephens Catholic Church with Father Rodney White officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven North Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Helping Hands of Midland.
