Susan Smith

Susan Smith passed away peacefully during the afternoon of October 27,2024 after a hard- fought battle with lung cancer at the age of 74.

Susan was born in Midland, Texas, and was the fourth child of five of Oscar and Willie Smith. Shortly after graduating high school, she joined her siblings and moved to Los Angeles, California. She loved to travel, so she moved to several cities between California and Texas before she finally settled back in Midland, Texas, with her three kids.

Susan had quite the green thumb and loved spending evenings working in her yard, growing plants and taking care of the trees that were planted for her by her late son Marcus. She loved music, both new and old, and had collected many records over the years. She was also known for her beautiful smile that she always greeted everyone with, along with a warm hug that made you feel welcomed and loved.

Susan is survived by her two children: Candice Smith and Victor Johnson (wife Helen Johnson), her sister Nancy Ward (husband Cecil Ward), her four grandchildren: Jordan Schwartz, Elaina Rodriguez, Jessica Johnson, Leah Johnson and an array of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Oscar and Willie Smith, her son Marcus Smith, her brothers; Oscar Smith, Jr., Edward Thomas Smith, and Steve Smith.

A homecoming celebration will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at 6:00 PM at Ellis Funeral Home and a viewing will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 PM.
