John Butler Steward, 85 of Midland, Texas went to be with our Lord and Savior on June 21, 2018.
John was preceded in death by his parents Abram and Floy Steward, his loving wife of 66 years Ethel Steward, four brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his sons, Bill and Linda Steward of Midland, Buford and Sherry Steward of Ft Worth, Texas, Johnny and Mechelle Steward of Midland, Wendell and Brenda Steward of Midland and one daughter Gladys and Thomas Reed of Midland, thirteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
John "Pops" was born on the family ranch August 9, 1932 in Taylor County, where he grew up as a working cowboy. In 1950, he met and married Ethel, the love of his life, in Hamlin, Texas. They moved to Midland in 1956 where he would become a mechanic by trade. Pops loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. One of the things we will cherish and miss the most are his amazing stories.
Pops wanted nothing more than to be reunited with the love of his life. We know that you are now forever hand in hand. If only we could catch a glimpse.
The Steward family is beyond grateful to Randy Lasyone, for not only the love, care and compassion you showed our Pops, but for being his sidekick and partner in crime the last few years.
There will be a visitation at Ellis Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2018. Services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside will follow at Serenity Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Billy Steward, Jr, John Steward, Buford Steward, Jr., Jason Steward, Michael Steward, Ricky Carr and Thomas Reed, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Midland Home Hospice or The Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
