Jack Benjamin Wilkinson, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on November 25, 2024, at age 84. A larger-than-life man from Midland, Texas, he earned a legendary reputation by all who knew him. He exuded integrity and valued hard work, entrepreneurship, and loyalty.
After graduating from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Jack returned to his hometown to work in the oil business where his career encompassed everything from managing the Wilco Building to ranching. He loved mentoring those closest to him and finding a way to connect with anyone he met.
He will be remembered most for his true love of family, particularly his wife Terry. She was the love of his life to whom he was deeply devoted. Their life and partnership together left him deeply fulfilled. Jack traveled to all seven continents with Terry but photo safaris in Africa held a special place in both their hearts.
Although a world traveler, Jack was ultimately a true Texan who loved both his home in west Texas and also the lakes in the Texas hill country. Jack was a talented water skier who was able to ski barefoot in his youth and enjoyed teaching his children and friends to water ski. He loved to entertain, and his quick wit and sense of humor will be remembered by all.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia McEntire Wilkinson and Jack Benjamin Wilkinson, Sr. and his dear cousin Ruth (Tootles) McEntire Caldwell. Jack is survived by his wife Teresa (Terry) Durkin Wilkinson, his dear cousin June Cowden, his children Amy Wilkinson Doherty (and husband, David of Houston), Virginia Wilkinson Allen (and husband, Cody of Midland), and Katherine Wilkinson Barbolla (and husband, Craig of Fort Worth); and grandchildren Wilkinson Doherty, Joseph Doherty, Isabel Doherty, Elliott Allen, Jack Benjamin Allen, Teresa (Reese) Allen, Bradley Barbolla, and Scott Barbolla.
Jack will be buried in a private service with a celebration of life to follow. Should anyone so desire, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to The Wilkinson Behavioral Health Fund at Midland Memorial Hospital or a charity of your choice. The family would like to recognize Beth Saunders, Patty Cooper, and Christina Reyes for their dedication and loyalty to Jack over the years. The family will be having a celebration of life at the family home on Monday, December 2, 2024 from 11:30-1:00.
