Drayton was born in San Augustine, Texas on January 16, 1920. He spent his early childhood in San Augustine and San Saba, Texas before moving to Austin, Texas where he graduated from high school. Drayton attended Yale University Officer School in New Haven, Connecticut and in 1943 was activated into the 411th Air Service Squadron in the Army Air Corps.
During his service, he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Theatre Campaign Medal, and the Victory Medal. After his service in the Army Air Corps, Captain Morris attended the University of Texas in Austin and received a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
Drayton married the love of his life, Gladys Marie Allen, on March 13, 1943 and they were happily married for 61 years.
Drayton worked as Manager for Marathon Oil Company for 38 years. Drayton worked as an independent drilling consultant for a number of years after retiring from Marathon Oil Co.
Drayton was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his activities as a Mason. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and especially spending time and laughing with his wife Marie. Drayton was a wonderful and loving husband and father. He was the type of man who was always eager to selflessly help any family member to be the most that they could be. He was the cornerstone of our family. We will deeply miss him and always hold him in our hearts.
Drayton is preceded in death by his mother Faytie Payne Morris, father Marvin Morris, and wife Gladys Marie Morris.
Drayton is survived by his daughter Genny Bynum and fiancé Marlin Farris, son Marvin Morris and wife Lu, grandchildren Jason Morris and wife Anca, Mike Morris and wife Amanda, Thad Reese and fiancé Tanya Long, Richard Morris and wife Cinnamon, and Ryan Reese and wife Sarah; great grandchildren Jet Morris, Chase Morris, Emily Morris, Nichole Morris, Ethan Morris, Drayton Morris, Kason Morris, Reagan Chin, Chandler Reese, and Jack Reese; brother and sister in law Harding and Bessie Collins; Bob and Elsby Rhea, Mary Allen and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Ellis Funeral Home with Kathryn Boren officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven memorial Park.
