Dorothy Looper Rodgers was born January 15, 1923 in Plainview, Texas to Homer and Viola Frances “Tuts” Looper. She attended Texas State Women’s College in Denton, Texas and earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University.
She married Dan VanLeer Rodgers in Plainview, Texas on April 22, 1944. After he returned from the South Pacific, they lived in Lubbock, Big Spring, and finally moved to Midland in 1948. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and was active in the Manor Park community.
Mrs. Rodgers died Tuesday May 24, 2011 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband Dan, her parents, her sister Helen, and her sister Ruth. She is survived by her daughter Susan Rodgers Gust and husband Steve of Lincoln, California; son Van Norman Rodgers and wife Carol of Midland, Texas; daughter Beth Rodgers Murphy and husband Dennis of Stafford, Virginia; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Thursday May 26, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.at Ellis Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 1:30PM May 27, 2011, Reverend Steve Schorr presiding. Reception will follow.
The family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of Midland, 911 W. Texas Ave.; Manor Park, Inc., 2208 N. Loop 250 W.; First Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Texas Ave., or a charity of one’s choice.
