Dorothy Hill passed away at Midland Memorial Hospital on July 30, 2017 after a short illness surrounded by several family and friends. Dorothy believed in positive attitude at all times and was known for her warm, loving smile, kind heart and her smile would fill a room. She lived a full life raising eight children while also being a military wife, constantly moving from different deployments in the U.S. and England. She had children born in Oklahoma, Virginia and Arizona.
She was born in Vinita, Oklahoma on October 13, 1925 and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she met James J. Hill at a Catholic Church function. She married James who joined the United States Air Force and served 28 years, eventually moving to Midland, Texas in 1973 from Belton, Missouri until her passing.
She was an active member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. Dorothy was an original parishioner of St. Stephen's Catholic Church, where she was a faithful parishioner until she passed away. She was active in the church prayer line for years and a very proud member of St. Stephen's. She loved ice skating in her youth, was a fantastic artist, an avid reader and loved gardening and flowers. Dorothy became an avid sports fan, from her seven boys playing all sports. She loved watching and discussing local high school sports, the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Tech.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James J. Hill; her oldest son, Thomas Hill and his wife, Joyce. Her surviving children are Kathryn Hill of San Antonio, Texas, Terrance Hill and spouse Erlynn of Midland, Texas, David Hill and spouse Karen of Edmond, Oklahoma, Robert Hill and spouse Beth of League City, Texas, Patrick Hill of Midland, Texas, John Hill and spouse Michele of Evans, Georgia, Tim Hill and spouse Jeanie of Dripping Springs, Texas.
She also was a proud grandmother of fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her deceased parents were Irene and Tom Mahoney of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her sister Mary Doris Maxwell of Denver, Colorado, and her beloved friend and cousin Margaret Schier and spouse Joe Schier of St. Louis, Missouri. She also is survived by extended family members Carole and Karen Anderson of Midland, Texas.
A viewing will be held at Ellis Funeral Home at 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland, Texas 79701 on Wednesday August 2nd from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Stephens Catholic Church 4601 Neely Ave., Midland, Texas 79707 at 11:00 am on Thursday August 3rd. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park at 4616 North Big Spring, Midland, Texas 79706.
