Darwin C. Baker beloved husband, father, uncle, brother and friend passed away on July 11, 2018 after a five-year battle with early onset Alzheimer’s and Lewy Body Dementia. He was born in Midland on February 26, 1963 to Curtis and Joyce Baker; he was the youngest of their five children.
He grew up in Midland and is a 1981 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. On August 17, 1985 hearts and souls were joined when he married his best friend and confidant Tana. At an early age he learned the trade of an electrician and worked as a commercial electrician until 1987 when he became employed with TXU (ONCOR) for 24 years. In 2011 he accepted his dream job at Midland College as a Maintenance Technician until the dementia took his ability to perform his work responsibilities.
Darwin is preceded in death by his mother Joyce Baker and his father Curtis Baker.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years Tana Baker and their three children Matthew, Chloe and Jeremy. His brothers Greg (Debbie) of Watauga, TX; Rayford (Tere) of Midland; Rickey (Cindy) of Athens, TN; and sister Denise Baker of Midland. His extended family Kelly Mason (Deborah) of Midland, Lisa Lewis (Brad) of Odessa and Gail Gonzales (George) of Hale Center, TX. He also has many nieces and nephews whom he loved and cared for very much throughout his life.
Darwin was always looking to lend a helping hand to anyone. He thought his final gesture of help would be to donate his body to research and hoped that in the future other families would not have to endure the hardship of losing their loved one to these devastating diseases.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 28, 2018, 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Golf Course Road Church of Christ.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Hospice of West Texas or a hospice in your area in honor of the selfless work these kind people do for our loved ones.
