Charles H. (Hamp) Kerby passed away June 20, 2015 in Midland, Texas. Born on July 11, 1944 in Sherman, Texas, Hamp was the son of Charles H. and Dorothy Rheay Kerby. He was raised in Jal, New Mexico and graduated from Jal High School in 1962. He attended Lubbock Christian College and Texas Tech University. He was a sergeant in the New Mexico National Guard from 1966-1978.
He married Sylvia Ann Thornton on December 23, 1966 in Lockney, Texas. He retired from Shell Pipeline in 1999, after 26 years of service in New Mexico and Texas. Hamp was an avid sportsman who played softball, tennis, racquetball, and golf to stay active.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 29 years Sylvia Thornton Kerby, and his mother-in-law Loree Hammit.
He has been married to Claudette Harrod since 2001. They made their home in Midland, and they are both active members of the Fairmont Park Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife Claudette Kerby of Midland, two sons, Kelly Kerby and his wife Stacy of Austin, Texas; Michael Kerby of Baltimore, Maryland; one daughter Lynnette Harrod Johnson and her husband Steve of Flagstaff, Arizona; one brother Rick Kerby and his wife Judy of Carlsbad, New Mexico; and four grandchildren Jesse and Tony Kerby of Austin, Texas; and Courtney and Claire Johnson of Flagstaff, Arizona.
Visitation will be at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland on Monday June 22, 2015 from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015 with Pastor Scott Sheppard officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Ken Ferguson, Jerry Woolard, Ken Griffin, Jim McKay, Johnny Warren, and Russell Winkley.
