Carl “Hoot” Leonard, 94 years of age, of Martin and Midland County, Texas, passed away on November 8, 2018 in Midland, Texas. He was born near Abilene, Texas in a little community named Stith, Texas. Hoot’s parents were Carl and Emma Lee Leonard and Hoot Leonard was born on September 26, 1924. Hoot married Hazel Colleen Church on May 15, 1943 in Midland, Texas.
He farmed and ranched all his life. He owned the John Deere dealership in Stanton, Texas, managed the Midland, Texas Farmer’s Co-op Cotton Gin and managed the Texas Ten Ranch. Hoot was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army-Air Corp.
Carl “Hoot” Leonard is preceded in death by his mother, father and four siblings; Louise Schuelke, Jack Leonard, Evelyn Eaton and Lola Chandler.
Hoot is survived by his wife Colleen Church Leonard, siblings Vivian Chandler, Frankie Schuelke and Bill Leonard and family Jackie and Bruce Carter, Gail and Dennis Stratton, Don and Phyllis Leonard, Guy and Beverley Leonard, Elaine Leonard and Joann and Randy Klinkhammer. Hoot and Colleen have ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4:00pm to 6:00pm on November 11, 2018 at Ellis Funeral Home, Midland, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday on November 12, 2018 at Ellis Funeral Home with Pastor Stazie Church, Community of Church Stanton, Texas assisted by Tommy Hursh. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
