It was a beautiful service on Friday, May 7, remembering my brother, John. So rare in this day and age to have a Pastor who spoke from firsthand knowledge and shared beautiful memories. Tributes from his wife, sons John and Erik touched me deeply. I learned things about him that I didn't know. Having grown up with a mother and father who had musical talents, we've always shared the joy of music and singing. We both loved to read. We both believed in Santa Claus. Know that you were loved, Johnny, and that your memory will live on. 


I met John at Switzerland Community Church in the early 80s. John had a strong bass voice and we, along with our wives, sang together in the choir for many years,  He  was always willing to help with whatever needed to be done concerning the Lord’s work, helping out with children, youth and missions ministry to name a few. . I remember when we would sing “Pass It On” during worship and we came to the last verse where the lyrics were “ I’ll shout it from the mountaintop...” and John would bellow out “Praise God!” He was bold concerning his faith and had a contagious smile and laugh. Almost every Christmas John would suggest the choir sing Handel’s Messiah and we never tackled that work , but I can imagine he is probably singing it with a heavenly choir whenever he desires. One day we will be reunited in the best choir ever assembled. Until then...sing on my friend!

John was a well loved Uncle to my children Greg, Geof and Stefanie. And, cousin to Lynn, Marie, Joan and Jenny. He always had a smile and a kind word for the kids. Our family started out in Connecticut and although we’re now in separate parts of the country, we share a common bond of love.  God bless you and keep you, Johnny.

I remember him at the old switzerland church. He was very friendly and had the santa claus look when I was a kid in the 1980's. H e would always direct the traffic after the church let out. VERY STRONG CHRISTIAN MAN and prayer warrior.  

Candi and I met John and Fran at the Switzerland Community Church back in the late 1980s after we moved to the area.  SCC was a small but growing Church full of life and love.  John and Fran were fixtures there, active in several ministries but the two I remember the most were the missions committee and the organizers of Angel Tree.  John was a soft spoken man, quick with a smile, (I loved his laugh, his whole face lit up), and I never heard heard a cross or negative tone come from him, not even once.
Candi and I moved away 20 years ago and lost touch with John, but the memories are still there, and they are warm memories that make me smile. ...Randy & Candi Chitty

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Frances McCormick; 2 sons: John (Kristi) McCormick and Erik (Jenny) Christiansen; daughter, Colleen (Chad) Wiest; sister, Jean Kelly; 4 grandchildren: Hunter, Josiah, Gracie and Cindy.
