Jerry Allen Robinson was born on Sunday, August 7, 1941, to Charles Harris Robinson and Thelma Watson Robinson in McMinnville, Tennessee. He graduated from Warren County High School and joined the United States Navy, where he served for seven years as an aviation ordnanceman. He married Glenda Jean Hodges on June 21, 1964.
As a 33-year-old successful businessman who experienced the emptiness of worldly pleasures and alcohol, he was miraculously converted to Christianity on December 21, 1974. With a new-found faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, he was soon called into ministry and subsequently ordained to preach on October 16, 1977, at Northside Baptist Church in McMinnville, Tennessee. Demonstrating the true heart of a servant, he fulfilled various capacities in multiple churches across Tennessee until 1979 when he was called to his first pastorate at the First Baptist Church of Smart, Tennessee. While there, he founded and served as the principal of the Smart Christian Academy. In 1982, he moved to Florida as Associate Pastor and Business Administrator at North Jacksonville Baptist Church. Two years later God would move him to his final pastoral position at Madeira Drive Baptist Church in Orange Park, Florida. Under the church motto “Our Goal Is Souls,” Dr. Robinson led the church in fulfilling the Great Commission throughout Clay County. Outgrowing the facilities and seeking a location to serve an expanding county, he led the church to its current location in Middleburg, Florida, where the congregation would change its name to Centerpoint Baptist Church. Dr. Robinson faithfully served this church from 1984 until health complications compelled his retirement in 2018. During his forty-one years of ministry, he led countless people to Jesus Christ, with a preaching style that had a generational impact on north Florida.
With the heart of an evangelist, Dr. Robinson was an avid soul winner. Unique among men, his favorite pastime was telling others about Jesus. If you had the privilege to know him, within minutes he would ensure that you had the opportunity to know the Lord Jesus Christ personally. Having a keen understanding of the difference between religion and relationship, Dr. Robinson fostered a deep understanding of God’s Word and personally modeled how to walk closely with the Lord. His pulpit ministry was marked by biblical fidelity and a theological depth that belied his Tennessee accent and “country-boy” mannerisms. Being no stranger to loss and personal tragedy, he responded to life’s challenges with perseverance and a level of empathy that is borne out of a sincere understanding of God’s providence and love. His favorite Bible verse was Romans 8:28. Demonstrating a personal testimony that was consistent with his preaching, Dr. Robinson ministered to scores of church congregants who would endure battles of health, loss of children, and all manner of persecution. While he would humbly give all credit to his Lord, Dr. Robinson served as a pillar of faith both within the local church and across the southeast United States.
