Bruce M. Ferrell Sr., 95, passed away on March 13, 2019 in Middleburg, FL surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Florence, South Carolina but spent most of his summers in North Carolina, mainly Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach. Wrightsville Beach provided him the opportunity to go fishing, which he loved to do and Wilmington provided the opportunity to meet his future wife. As a veteran of WWII, he flew 26 missions in the European theater as a tail gunner and part time navigator on a B25 Mitchell. After active duty Mr. Ferrell joined the army reserves and retired with 30 years of service. Mr. Ferrell began his civilian career with the Atlantic Coastline Railroad in North Carolina. Later the name was changed to Seaboard Coastline Railroad and in 1960, he moved him family to Florida with the railroad. Eventually, the name was changed to CSX Transportation from which he retired after 40 years. He was a member of Toastmasters and after retirement, spent time at the library, reading and at the beach every summer with his family. He is survived by his children: Barbara (Mike) Ponder, Bruce (Paula) Ferrell Jr. and Barry (Kitty) Ferrell; 5 grandchildren: Erin Vermillion, Eric Ponder, Taylor Ferrell, William Ferrell and Lori McAfee; 3 great grandchildren: Emma, Abby and Savanna; great-grandson, Jax.
