Ruth Hirsch Berman was born in Brownsville, NY on July 30, 1923 and passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on December 27, 2021. Ruth was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a sassy, fun-loving, skilled artist who enjoyed playing Mahjong and Canasta with friends.
During WWII, she worked in the Art District of the Brooklyn Naval Yard before moving to Miami in 1951 with husband Martin Hirsch, where they became co-founders of Temple Or Olom. She joyfully taught preschool for 33 years where she was fondly known as Miss Ruth and remained an active, dedicated member of the Temple community for decades.
She is predeceased by Martin Hirsch, second husband Edward Berman, her parents Harry and Esther Gordon, daughter Sherri Hirsch Richwine, son Alan Hirsch, grandson David Hirsch and sister Judith Primak. She is survived by grandchildren Carrie (David) Hanson, Daniel (Mandy) Downs and Rachel (Shelby) Hennessey, Daughter-In-Law Michelle Hirsch, nieces Laurie (David) Downs and Kathy (Stanley) Greenstein, five great-granddaughters, and many loved relatives.
A graveside memorial service following COVID protocols will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 10:00 am at Riverside Gordon Memorial Gardens at Mount Nebo (Kendall) located at 5900 SW 77th Ave, Miami, FL 33143.
