Michael was born January 26, 1943 in Boston, to Rose and Edward Rubin. He spent his childhood in Sharon, Massachusetts before moving with his parents and younger brother to Miami as a teenager. It was there that he met the love of his life, and future wife, Ann Beth at Beach High. A consummate gentleman, he captured her attention with his kind ways that continued throughout his life–be it opening the door, cleaning up the dinner dishes, or tenderly leading his love to the dance floor.
After graduating from Beach High in 1960, Michael earned his bachelor's degree from University of Miami in 1964. Michael and Ann Beth married the same year, embarking on a nearly 60 year journey through life together. As the newlyweds settled in, Michael began law school at University of Miami where his scholarly side blossomed as editor of the law school’s magazine. Even after graduation in 1967, Michael’s love for learning and reading continued for decades. The New York Times was delivered to his doorstep and stacks of books covering a wide range of topics could always be found by his bedside.
Law school led to a long and fruitful career in real estate development, most notably for senior living communities throughout Florida. In retirement, Michael was able to pursue two of his passions more fully: travel and photography. With his wife by his side, he traveled - and photographed - the world as he visited six of the seven continents. Many of his prints are displayed in his home, but even more are enjoyed outside those four walls by the family and friends to whom Michael graciously shared his work.
His humble roots from growing up in Sharon never left him in the midst of his professional and personal good fortunes. Throughout it all, Michael’s love for his family was prominent. Nothing made him happier than to spend time with his wife, sons, and grandchildren even in the simplest of ways such as going to the movies with his wife, listening to a record album with his sons, or making pancakes with his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Barry Rubin. He is survived by his wife Ann Beth, sons Paul (Amy) Rubin of Johns Creek, Georgia, and Marc Rubin of Miami, and three grandchildren Jacob, Fiona, and Jules.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 17 at 11 a.m. at Lakeside Memorial.
