Ruth Smith Trowbridge, died on Monday, January 5, 2015, at the age of 87, after a decade long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Ruth was a native of West Blocton, Alabama and a resident of the New Orleans area for over 65 years, including the last 6 years as a resident of Poydras Home/ Hunter House. Daughter of the late James M. Smith, Sr. and Cora Smith. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Fred M. Trowbridge, Sr and her son Mark S. Trowbridge. Loving and devoted mother of Fred M. Trowbridge, Jr. (wife Karen), Denise Trowbridge Bruno (husband John), and Kellie Trowbridge Pagan (husband Rene'). Loving grandmother of Michele Trowbridge Barreca (husband Brad), Fred M. Trowbridge III, Anna Bruno and Christina Bruno, as well as the great grandmother of Vivian and Violet Barreca. Also survived by her brother Jack L. Smith and her dearest friend Marilyn O' Connor. Ruth was a fun loving soul, who loved to travel and was wild about Mardi Gras. She was a retiree of South Central Bell. Friends and Relatives are invited to attend the visitation at 10am at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd in Metairie, with service to follow at 11am in the Chapel. In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Ruth's honor.
