Baton Rouge resident & New Orleans native Robert "Robbie" Miles Cupit passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the age of 78. Robbie was born January 20, 1945, to Nellie May & Cleon Cupit in New Orleans, Louisiana. There he attended Lafayette Grammar School & later graduated from Fortier High School in 1964. After high school, he attended vocational college where he received his technical degree in electrical drafting & design.
Robbie worked as an electrical draftsman/designer for Walk, Haydel & Associates & McDermott International in New Orleans. He later worked as an estimator for Courtesy Automotive and a technician for Professional Vending of Baton Rouge.
He was always the eternal optimist; if you asked him how he was doing he`d always say “doing great!” even up to the time of his passing. Robbie will always be remembered for his meek, gentle, resigned personality, and his passion & love for family & friends. Robbie was an avid lifelong collector of Lionel Trains dating back to his childhood. He loved photography and was never without his camera at a family gathering. Both he & his brother grew up with a love for drag racing & hot rods; a pastime that he enjoyed into the latter years of his life and resulted in his ownership of a 1940 Willys.
Robbie was preceded in death by both his parents and his brother & best friend Glenn. He is survived by his sons Lance (Jennifer) of Baton Rouge & Dustin of New Orleans. He also leaves behind (5) grandchildren; to whom he was known as "Grandpa" to Ripley, Tatum & Greyson, and "Pops" to Abrielle & Pierce.
A Visitation for Robbie will be held Friday, June 2, 2023, from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Metairie, Louisiana 70006. Following the visitation will be a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 PM in the Leitz-Eagan Chapel.
