Rene "Rennie" B. Mares, Jr.

He was born on December 16th, 1929, in New Orleans, LA. He was the beloved

husband of Mary Mares for over 50 years. He is preceded in death by his parents

Mercedes Piaggio Mares and Rene Bernard Mares, Sr., and by his daughter Merci

Mares Bain. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his sons Jonathan Marc Jude Mares

and Rene Bernard Mares III, one grandchild, Thomas Bain (Christy), two great

grandchildren, Art Bain and Maggie Bain. Rene was a graduate of Fortier High

School and Soule Business College in New Orleans. Rene was a retired Regional

Sales Manager with Fairbanks Morse, a division of Colt Industries. He started his

own company, RBM Sales, in his later years and continued selling until he retired

for the second time. Rene always loved his pets and going to the movies with his

wife and son. Seeing a good movie and eating at a good restaurant was a Friday

night staple in the Mares household. Having been in the Naval Reserves in his

early years, Rene was also fascinated by history and different wars throughout

time. He was especially interested in reading about or watching films about World

War II. He was a loving father and husband who always supported his son

Jonathan's theatrical endeavors, whether Jonathan was behind the scenes or on

stage. He never missed an opening night of a new production! Rene loved to

travel and some of his favorite places to go with his family included Nashville,

Houston, Biloxi, Tampa and Pensacola (home to his favorite museum in the

country, the National Naval Aviation Museum). Having been a great baseball

player in his high school years, Rene always had a love of sports throughout his

life. He was a season ticket holder for many years for LSU Football and the New

Orleans Saints. Rene loved to watch Tigers (On the field for Cannon's run),

Saints (In the stands for Dempsey's kick), Pelicans and Yankees games

with his son Jonathan and many a fun night was had getting riled up over various

plays and final scores. Being a Catholic, Rene received his Last Rites from Father

Beau at St. Angela Merici Church. A special thank you goes to the Hospice nurses

who cared for him his last three days on earth. Being such a big part of our lives,

he will always be in our hearts and he will be so missed. Love you, my sweet
