Luella Swanton Coates

Luella Swanton Coates, age 98, of Metairie, LA passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024. Luella was born on November 27, 1926 in New Orleans, LA to Robert William Swanton and Christine Normandale Swanton.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles George Coates, Sr.; her children, Charlotte Coates Jones and Charles George Coates, Jr.; her grandchildren, Ellen Coates and Robert "Bobby" Joseph Coates, Jr.; and her siblings, Robert W. Swanton and Arthur Swanton.

Survivors include her loving children, Robert Joseph Coates, Sr., Charlene Coates Schaub (Ruppert), and Michael Patrick Coates; her 9 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.

Luella was a native of New Orleans, LA and a longtime resident of Metairie, LA. She was a proud homemaker and dedicated mother to her 5 children. After the death of her mother, Luella went to work for Labiche's at both the Canal St. and Baronne St. locations. She was a devoted Catholic and a former parishioner of St. Clement of Rome in Metairie, LA.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 11:00am. Visitation will be from 9:00am until 11:00am. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.
