Jules Ferreol Lacoste, Jr.

Jules Ferreol Lacoste Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sept. 4 at the age of 85. He leaves behind a legacy of five children: Christine (Bryan), Jules III (Tonya), Todd (Beth), Gregg (Aimee), and Jennifer (Bryan); 13 grandchildren: Brett (Monika) Greyson (John Matthew), Jules IV, Olivia (Sean), Madison, Jarryd (Kristen), Juliana (Ryan), Jordan (Krista), Christian, Nicholas, Peyton, Brennan and Bryce; and eight great-grandchildren: Marley, Owen, Lennon, Sabine, Tatum, Chloe, Rhett and Keira. He is also survived by devoted longtime companion Harolyn Ramsey. He was the son of Jules Ferreol Lacoste and Echo Olga Boudreaux Lacoste and is survived by his beloved brother Ronald Lacoste (Sofia), cousins, nieces and nephews, and numerous other family and friends. Jules was an Allstate Insurance agent for more than 30 years. He retired early in his 50s to take care of his wife, JoAnn, during the last year of her life. He loved Diamondhead, Mississippi, and built two houses there – the first summer home in the 1970s, the second his permanent home for more than a decade after JoAnn died. It was there he enjoyed playing golf with buddies and visiting his favorite Chinese restaurant nearby. His children convinced him to return to New Orleans in 2018. Jules graduated from St. Leo the Great Elementary School and St. Aloysius High School where he made lifelong friends. He was a star athlete, especially in baseball his entire childhood and teen years, earning many awards individually and for the teams he played on for Coach Altobello on scholarship at Aloysius. He attended Tulane University, again on scholarship, to play baseball for three years before he was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system to play third base. He served in the Coast Guard before marrying and having five children. Jules was a devout Catholic, attending Mass at Immaculate Conception Church downtown each morning before high school and an annual retreatant at Manresa House of Retreats in Convent, LA, for more than 30 years. He was a generous man throughout his life, helping many people along the way with his time and treasure. Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral Mass celebrated by Msgr. Bob Massett Friday, Sept. 8 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 105 Bonnabel Blvd. at Metairie Road. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., with words of remembrance at 11:45 a.m. A Christian burial will follow at St. Louis #3 Cemetery on Esplanade Avenue in New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Cenacle at the Lake Retreat House or Manresa.
