Jack Lee Smith, age 87, of Independence, Louisiana passed away on Friday February 16, 2018. Jack was born January 5, 1931 in West Blocton, Alabama to Cora Lee Clements Smith and James Monroe Smith Sr.
Jack is survived by; daughter Deborah Ann Smith Mod (Mark); son Gregory Joseph Smith (Teresa); daughter Karla Kay Smith Carden (John); and son Richard Kevin Smith; granddaughter Alexandra Smith Mod, grandson Derek Joseph Smith and granddaughter Kayla Marie Smith along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean Jackson Smith; father James Monroe Smith, Sr., and mother Cora Lee Clements Smith; brother William Alonzo Smith; brother James Monroe Smith Jr.; sister Mary Katherine Smith; brother Thomas Edward Smith; and sister Ruth Marie Trowbridge.
A long time resident of Kenner, Louisiana, he was a Korean War Veteran and worked for many years for American Cyanamid/Cytec.
A visitation for Jack will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana. A memorial service will occur Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Leitz-Eagan Chapel, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana. A burial will occur Friday, February 23, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Colonial Cemetery, 13433 Vitrano Lane, Independence, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation in honor of Betty Jackson Smith or in honor of Jack to the Louisiana SPCA an organization where he adopted his buddy "BINGO".
