Donna Jo Hudson Bologna passed away peacefully in her home in Kenner on the morning of Tuesday, March 14, 2017, four days short of her 81st birthday. She was the widow of Frederick Anthony Bologna of New Orleans. She is survived by three children: Michael Frederick Anthony Bologna (Patrick Toole), Carla Suzanne Bologna Hellmers (Keith), and Leslyn Virginia Bologna Lorelli (Marc); five grand-children: Elizabeth Anne Lorelli, Carrie Marie Hellmers Mayfield (Jerry), Catherine Suzanne Lorelli Bonifay (Cory), Kristen Michelle Hellmers MacShane (Ryan) and Keith James Hellmers, Jr.; one great-grandchild: Jasper Maxwell Bonifay; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bologna, originally from Baton Rouge, was the daughter of Carl Milton and Helen Mae Reynolds Hudson. A graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, she briefly attended L.S.U and received her R.N. from Our Lady of the Lake Hospital (now Medical Center). She practiced nursing for over 50 years. In the 1980s she retired from the American Red Cross. After a brief retirement, she returned to nursing at Ochsner Medical Center, and, eventually, retired from St. Charles Parish Hospital as Director of Education and Infectious Disease Control. She was a great lover of antiques (especially Depression Era glass), animals of all kinds, and was fiercely devoted to her family. Services will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA 70006.
