Charles George Hefler Jr.

Charles “Charlie” George Hefler Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at the age of 80. He was born in New Orleans, LA on November 10, 1943 and was a longtime resident of Kenner, LA.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Dakin Hefler, his children, Stephen Hefler (Anita), Wendy Paladino (Aaron), Tracey Dupuis (Keith), and Scott Hefler (Juliette), and his wonderful grandchildren, Kacey Paladino Pierce (James), Ryan Paladino, Tyler Dupuis, Austin Dupuis, Korbin Hefler, and Heidi Mae Hefler. He is also survived by his siblings, Craig Hefler, Ronald Hefler, and Kim Armato (Tony) as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles George Hefler Sr. and Irma Buras Hefler.

Charlie graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary and Redemptorist High School in 1962 and worked for the Illinois Central/Canadian National Railroad for over 40 years. Growing up, he could be found playing sports and running around the Irish Channel. His love of life and his humor will be cherished in the memories of all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd. Metairie LA. Visitation will be held from 11AM – 1PM with a funeral Mass to begin at 1PM. A private interment will be held at a later date.
