Mr. William Edward Dewberry

William Edward Dewberry passed away on February 28, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born December 5, 1930, in Cleburne, Texas, to William Elton and Alvenia Burt Dewberry. Ed grew up in small Texas towns associated with the Santa Fe Railroad where his dad was a section foreman for forty years. Ed was preceded in death less than four months ago by his beloved wife of 69 years, Frances Uvonne Stovall Dewberry, and earlier by his parents, by five older siblings, and by one grandson, Larry Rector.

Ed served his country in the Army Air Force from 1946 to 1949 in Japan, the Philippines, Korea and Guam and after returning home attended college at Florida Christian College, Abilene Christian University and several trade schools for radio, TV, and electronics. Ed and Uvonne were married on July 3, 1953, and lived in Texas all their lives, including 46 years in Mesquite. Ed worked in TV repair and later as a communications systems technician, with primary employment at E-Systems, where he designed a way to remotely test modems and telephone circuits, and later at AT&T, from where he retired. During their early years, Ed and Uvonne loved camping with family and friends, and after retirement, they traveled all over the U.S. in their travel trailer and later in a motor home and took several cruises.

At age 19 when confined to a hospital bed after surgery, Ed read the Bible for the first time and devoured it cover to cover, realizing that Jesus Christ really was God’s son. A few years later, he acknowledged Jesus as his Savior and dedicated the rest of his life to work in God’s kingdom. Faith, family, and church were Ed’s highest priorities. He taught Bible classes, preached, researched, and in retirement became a prolific author, publishing six books. He and Uvonne faithfully served in every church wherever they were members, until their declining health eventually required them to reside in a long term care facility.

Ed is survived by his younger brother, Charles Dewberry, a sister-in-law, Norma Sue Ratliff; his daughter Susan Rector, son-in-law, Jim Rector, and grandson, Luke Rector, of Forney; his daughter Debbie Faires and son-in-law, Larry Faires, of Mesquite; grandsons, Tyrel Faires and wife, Carrie, of Pflugerville; and Bryan Womack and wife, Vanessa, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and his daughter Julie Clark, son-in-law, Mickey Clark, and granddaughter, Meredith Clark, of Springfield, Missouri; and by several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Monday, March 6, 2023 at 10:00 am at Anderson Clayton Gonzales Funeral Home, 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite, Texas 75149.
