I think this is the photo Aunt Norma referred to below. 

My grandpa was a sort of quiet man, but when he had something to say, you could bet on it being witty. He was funny and loved to crack a joke to make everyone laugh. He was kind and caring, always taking the family out for a nice dinner when we all gathered. I have a bad memory so I don't remember much of my childhood but there is a few fond memories that still reside with me. I remember going on trip to Oklahoma and around Texas to stay in cabins or go camping, which I always loved. I'll also always remember my grandpa crawling on the ground with me under quilts pretending that were caterpillars. I was also told a story about everyone else always being kind of scared of my grandpa, one day he was asleep on the couch and no one wanted to disturb him. I went up to him and as he growled at me, I growled back, and he just laughed. I'm going to miss him dearly but I will always always remember him and his sweet smile.

I met Eddy when I was going to high school in Carlsbad, New Mexico. His wife, Nora, was my best friend.  Some of us Cave-girls from Carlsbad started dating some Bulldogs from Artesia.  Nora dated Eddy and I went out with Jay who had also, like Eddy,  moved to Artesia from Oklahoma.   We had a lot of fun together for awhile and then we lost track of the Bulldogs.
It was so neat when Nora and Eddy got together again and I was so blessed to be at their wedding in 1960.  We have kept in close touch by getting together in Carlsbad and also in Mesquite,  when I would visit my sister, Charlene and her family who have lived in the Dallas area for many years.   Eddy was so good about sending me music via e'mail by my favorite country singer, Johnny Cash.   Eddy will be missed a lot.  Prayers and blessings to his family.

Dad loved to spend time outdoors, fishing, gardening, exploring.  He loved nature and the simple things in life.  I can remember as a little girl helping him plant seeds in the garden.   At one point my parents had a wooded lot in East Texas and I can remember spending time out there just exploring.  Mom and Dad would often point out the different trees and plants and their names.    He also loved to go exploring down country roads just to see what was there.  I can also remember lying on the trunk of the car in our driveway viewing the stars and Mom and Dad would point out different constellations.   This year we seem to be having one of the most beautiful Falls in North Texas that I can ever remember seeing.  The trees are intense colors of red, yellow and orange.   And Saturday evening after Dad's funeral, I witnessed the nearly full moon hanging low on the horizon - only for a few short moments it seemed, but it was a beautiful site.  I thought of my dad while seeing the autumn colors and the moon and how much he would enjoy it.  I think I will always think of my dad when I see nature's beauty and feel his presence, and that brings me comfort and peace.  

I worked with Eddy for several years at Trinity Universal Insurance Company. He always seemed to be happy and was an extremely talented computer programmer and willing to help other people with their work problems.  I have not come across very many people that had his skills. I am very sorry to hear that he has passed. His family has my condolences.           

We shared a lot of good times with Eddy and Nora  and have many memories
of our times together. We admired  his intellect, his generosity of spirit and
 kindness to others. But our favorite memory is his quirky little smile when
he was outsmarting us to win at bridge, a game he  learned only to please Nora.


When Dad retired several years ago, he became very interested in ancestry and was very good at it. He traced his ancestors all the way back to Scotland, and also found the correct spelling and pronunciation of our last name. When he told me a few years back I said "WHAT"?!? I told him kids were calling me that in elementary school all the time before that Rooster Cogburn movie came out in '75, thank God! And those were fighting words!!
A few days ago, his nurse asked "is he German? Is Cogburn German"? About then Mom walked into the room, I said "no, there's the German one"!

Dad loved to get up early and make coffee and cook a good breakfast of eggs with green chilies, sausage, bacon, and toast for family and any relatives visiting. 
He regularly kept up with family and friends on Facebook, and enjoyed walks in the park with mom and their dogs, family, and friends.
He enjoyed  watching Daytripper, Texas Country Reporter, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and many shows on RFD-TV.
He loved to watch TV football, especially the Cowboys, and also college football, especially the Texas and Oklahoma teams, and especially the Oklahoma Sooners, often sitting in his living room office chair in front of the TV and taking command of the TV remote control.   
He so enjoyed his family, his kids and grandkids, and friends and was very caring and generous , often treating at restaurants. He stayed in touch with many of his coworkers. He kept in touch with his immediate and extended family, and I remember lots of trips to New Mexico and Oklahoma to visit great grandparents, grandparents, great uncles and aunts, and his sisters and our cousins, as well as Mom's side of the family, often having big family reunions in Carlsbad and Artesia, New Mexico.
Dad had lots of knowledge and wisdom to share, was very witty and we enjoyed lots of good laughs and funny stories. We will enjoy many, many good memories. He will be so missed by so many, a truly great man with a big heart.

Eddy was a slender and dark-haired young man, and I remember the Briscoe girls next door to us on Missouri Street had his Air Force photo posted on the dresser in their bedroom, and I hadn't seen it before.  When I noticed it, I saw this good-looking man, I first thought maybe it was Elvis.
