He was born on April 1, 1942 in Hillsboro, Texas to Paul Henderson Burns and Lera Lucille Fowler Burns.
Jerry was raised in Hillsboro, graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1960, and graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1963.
He married Margaret Ann Pool in 1963 and the couple raised three children in Friendswood, Texas.
He was a computer programmer at IBM where he worked for more than 26 years. He and Margie became members of the Friendswood Church of Christ in 1965 where they attended for over 39 years and built many long-lasting friendships. In 2005, they moved to Garland, Texas to be closer to their family. There they became members of the Highland Oaks Church of Christ.
In his spare time Jerry enjoyed building furniture, collecting artwork, making stained glass, researching the genealogy of his family and the family of others, following politics, visiting with the Highland Oaks 39ers, and spending time with his grandchildren who lovingly called him "Pop Pop".
His family and friends will always remember him as a loving husband and a man devoted to his family, the church, and his country.
He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Burns, mother, Lera Burns, and younger sister, Linda Burns.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margie Burns; three children, daughter, Karen Crockett and husband Cliff of Sunnyvale, Texas, son, Paul Burns and wife Jodie of Bentonville, Arkansas, son, John Burns and wife Kathryn of Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren: Daniel Crockett and wife Alexa, Katie Crockett, Ben Crockett, Murray Burns, Wyatt Burns, Jack Burns, Oliver Burns, Davis Burns and Blythe Burns; and one great-grandchild: Lennon Crockett.
