Bobby Ray “Bob-O” Whalen of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully on July 3, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 91 years old. He was born on January 27, 1930 in Aquilla, Texas and attended Hillsboro High School. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command. He worked for over 30 years for the Simmons Furniture Company as an upholsterer, and later as an electrical control panel fabricator for Siemens. He was active in his church, first attending East Grand Baptist Church, and then Grandview Baptist Church.
Bob enjoyed traveling with his family, especially to Colorado and to Padre Island where he was an avid fisherman. He was always a fixture at any sporting event, play, musical, dance recital or award ceremony where his family was involved. He and his wife Frances loved to travel, take bus tours, and cruises.
Bob is survived by his daughter Carolyn, son Robert and daughter-in-law Geneva; grandchildren Amanda, Jared, Zachary, Nicholas, and Amy; and great-grandchildren Emily, Donovan, Blake, and Deirdre. Bob was one of four brothers and is survived by his younger brother Harold.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Frances Jo (Dixon) Whalen; father A.D. Whalen; mother Viola Webb; and brothers Lloyd and Hollis Whalen.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 8th from 4 to 7 pm at Anderson Clayton Funeral Home, 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite, Texas 75149. The service will be held on Friday, July 9th at 11 am, Grandview Baptist Church, 1401 Interstate-30, Mesquite, Texas 75150.
