Susan Lynne Hawkins

Susan Lynne Hawkins, 49, of Phoenix, AZ passed away, June 27, 2016 in Rocky Point, Mexico. She was born January 28, 1967 in Omaha, NE to Donald William Jr. and Carol Jean [Kaiser] Vander Werf. As an infant, she moved with her family to Roxbury Twnsp, Morris County, New Jersey where she grew up with her sister Diane and two brothers Mark and Sean. Susan was very athletic in her younger days and loved playing basketball and was also on the Varsity softball team for four years at Roxbury High School where she graduated in 1985. As she got older, she enjoyed golfing, bicycling and especially shopping. After high school, Susan moved back to Nebraska where she attended the University of Nebraska, where she majored in Business. In 1990, she moved to Arizona and continued her education, taking courses at Arizona State University and the University of Phoenix. Susan was a great cook; she could cook anything. Susan would regularly visit the Farmer’s Markets to buy tomatoes to make her own sauces; she loved entertaining her family and friends especially around Thanksgiving. She had a knack for interior designing, would decorate homes and table setting as well as designing curtains. Susan was a loving, caring compassionate woman who would lend a hand to anyone. She is survived by her loving parents, Donald and Carol; her brothers, Mark (Lani) and Sean (Sharonne) Vander Werf; her sister, Diane (Ricardo) Martinez; nephews and nieces, Ricky Martinez, Karma Shleef and Weston, Dane and Brody Vander Werf as well as numerous cousins and many friends. A visitation will be held at 10:00am with a funeral service held at 10:30am on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Rd, Mesa, AZ with burial immediately following. Memorial donations may be made in Susan’s name to the Esperanza Children’s Home, Rocky Point, Mexico
